The long weekend

We had a really good Memorial Day weekend.  The weather was great — sunny and in the high 80s all weekend! With so much to do and our vacation being just around the corner, we decided to stick close to home this holiday weekend.  Saturday we worked on the 15th Street house all day and then went over to Tim’s sisters for a little BBQ.  Sunday we BBQed with friends at their new house.  Sunday was a huge day for Abbi!  She finally rolled over in our presence, went swimming for the first time (our friends have an in-ground pool & hot tub at their new place), and then had food other than cereal that night (mashed up sweet potato — yum, yum).  I was a little worried on how Abbi would react to the pool.  She loves her bath water but that water is warm and her bathtub is small.  Now she would be in a big “bath tub” with colder water and daddy would be in the “bath tub” with her.  She wasn’t too sure about the pool but she loved the hot tub.  They had the temperature turned down so the kids could go in it.  She had so much fun splashing and trying to eat the bubbles.  Yup, she’s going to be a little water baby!

On Monday we went with Tim’s sister and brother-in-law to a Memorial Day Parade.  Tim’s BIL is in the National Guard so he drove one of the big transport trucks in the parade and Tim got to be his “co-pilot”.  The picture above is of Tim in the big ol’ truck. It was a cute little small town and a very small parade but it was fun none-the-less.  Tim’s BIL served in Desert Storm and just got back from serving for 14 months in Iraq.  The parade and service reminded how much I loved growing up in a small town and how much I enjoyed going to parades with my grandfather.  He’s a Veteran and has so much respect and pride for his fellow veterans.  It is quite moving to see him stand when veterans or active military personnel march by carrying the U.S. flag.  It’s one of those memories that I will always have of him.

Anyhow, it was a great weekend and a very busy one.  Abbi was pretty tired last night when I put her down for bed.  No teeth yet!
