Ready for School?

My mom got this little backpack full of Dr. Seuss books for Abbi a few months ago. Abbi loves reading the books and pretty much has some of the books memorized. She loves “Go Dogs Go” and “Green Eggs and Ham” (she calls it “Sam I Am”). Recently she came up with idea that she would put all the books into the backpack and wear the backpack, all the time saying she’s going to school. She then, wearing the backpack, walks down the hall to our bedroom and reads her books sitting on the floor by our bed. It is very cute. However, it is starting to make me a little sad. The realization is that she is so close to going away to school.

We received a postcard in the mail the other day about registering for Pre-School. Technically I could enroll Abbi in Pre-School for this fall. The cut off date is for the kids to turn 3 or 4 by December 1. Abbi will be three on December 1. I cannot imagine sending her off to school this fall. In a way, I’m sure she’d do fine. But I’m not ready.

Tim said he was kind of excited for our kids to go off to school because it would give me more freedom. Freedom to work or volunteer at the school or get involved in more things. I’m excited for those days as well, but I’m okay with them being a few years away yet. I love this time I get to spend with Abbi at home and I don’t want to rush it away. These past two years have already gone by so fast and I can hardly remember her as a baby. So, I think we’ll just spend the next few years pretending about school and not actually going to school.
