Great Gifts – Food

After a holiday weekend encompassed by all things eating — turkey, pumpkin pie, sweet potatoes, pecan pie, stuffing — the last thing any of us wants to think about is food.  Especially since you probably still have weekend leftovers sitting in your fridge right now!  But food is one of the most popular gifts during the Christmas season!

From plates of cookies and candies to homemade jams and jellies, holiday treats are so fun to give to the people around us because they are easy, relatively inexpensive, and, well, who doesn’t love food!  So, here are some fun Holiday Food ideas for the people on your list!

Cookies & Candy – I love making Christmas cookies and candy!  It is one of the few things that I consistently do each and every Christmas.  Sometimes I send little gift boxes to my siblings, other times they make their way to my husband’s office, but they always end up at the family gatherings!  Here are a few treats on the list of things I’ll be making this year:  buckeyes, chocolate “suckers” in various shapes, peanut butter kisses, chocolate covered pretzels, and rice krispie wreaths.  I’ll also be looking for a few other new treats to try this year!

Can it! – This one takes a little forethought so it doesn’t work for everyone, but homemade jams, jellies, and salsas are great gifts too!  There’s really nothing like homemade canned good like this so most people will be very happy to be the recipient!  If you have extras stashed away from your canning earlier this year, grab a few and dress them up with some ribbon and a gift tag and away you go!

Make it yourself! – This one’s a combination of the two ideas above, kind of.  It’s “cookies in a jar”! Or hot chocolate or whatever.  Here’s the thought, take all the “dry” ingredients for your favorite cookies, measure them out, and layer them up in a jar.  Add some ribbon and a recipe card and voila! All the recipient needs to do is add the “wet” ingredients and bake!  You can also do this with homemade hot chocolate mix.

Gift Baskets – The best part about holiday gift baskets is that you can make your own or go with pre-made one.  Both are great options!  Making your own allows you to place fun food items or snacks with other gifts — popcorn and candy with a great new dvd, hot cocoa and marshmallows with some travel mugs, or chips and dip with a new board game.  Cute ways to personalize the basket!

The other option is to go with a popular pre-made gift basket.  There are so many to choose from but one of my families’ absolute favorites is Hickory Farms!  Honestly, I’m typically a chocolate person but I do love me some cheese and crackers!  And my husband…the way to his heart is through summer sausage!

Hickory Farms

My husband’s first choice in summer sausage is, and has always been, Hickory Farms! Imagine how excited he was when he found the Home for the Holidays Gift Box from Hickory Farms sitting on our counter last week!  Sheer delight!!!  The Home for the Holidays Gift Box is filled with the Hickory Farms signature summer sausage as well as an Italian Recipe summer sausage, an array of 4 cheeses, crackers, sweet hot mustard, and honey pineapple mustard.   I know, you’re mouth is watering!  But the thing that I really like about the Hickory Farms gift packs is that they literally have something for everyone — variety baskets, cheese only baskets, sausage only baskets, fruits, nuts, and even candy!!!  And they offer all of these delicious options in a variety of price ranges!!!

Regardless of which “food gift” options you choose this year, holiday treats are a great gift idea for those loved ones who don’t live near you but would still appreciate a little taste of that holiday goodness!  Or maybe think about those military personnel serving overseas this holiday season.  Hickory Farms offers a variety of Military gift boxes (including the Home for the Holidays Gift Box) that are designed with our military friends and family in mind, including free military shipping to military APO/FPO addresses!

I hope that gives you a few more gift ideas this Holiday Season!  And now all of that talk of holiday treats has made me hungry…time for a snack!

*You should know…this post was written, in part, while participating in a blog tour by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Hickory Farms.  I did receive a signature gift box from Hickory Farms to thank me for taking the time to participate.  However, all opinions stated here are my own and are not based on receiving complimentary products.
