Surviving the Summer

I can’t believe that next week is Memorial Day.  The official start to summer!  Is anyone else super excited?  Anyone terrified?  I’m a good mix of both.  I love the summer and look forward to all that it has to offer.  However, that’s a lot of time to fill with my kids!

There are fourteen weeks between Memorial Day and Labor Day.  Fourteen weeks!  That’s 98 days!!!  That is a lot of days hearing “Moooommm! I’m bored!”  So, what is your battle plan?

We’ve actually been on Summer vacation now for just over a week and I really need to get my act together and formulate a game plan for the summer.  I don’t think it’s quite fair for schools to just up and stop, saying “Yay, you’re on Summer vacation now! See you in September!”  It sends the parents and kids into a sense of shell shock.  All of a sudden it’s the last day of school and parents across teh country are saying “Oh, crap!”  They should really ease you into Summer vacation and then ease you back into the school year.

Unfortunately that’s not the case.  So, time to man-up and figure this Summer thing out.  Otherwise, it’s going to be a long ass 14 weeks!

To help you (and me) out, I’ll be bringing you a weekly post for the next 14 weeks that shares with you different ideas to beat the I’m bored plague of the summer.  (Yes, I did do a series like this last year or at least I started to.  I had to push the pause button on it because I went and got pregnant and spent a good portion of my summer with my head over the toilet.)

The 14 Weeks of Summer posts will focus on events or ideas here in West Michigan but then we’ll brainstorm some general ideas that you might be able to do where you live.  If you want to join in and do your own post, I’d love for you to leave me a comment each week so I can check out your ideas!

So, check back here each Monday for my weekly 14 Weeks of Summer idea.  Next week, the first official week, I’ll be sharing information about local festivals and events to put on your summer calendar!
