Does your car reflect you?

You’ve probably heard people say that owners begin to resemble their dogs. Or something like that.

Ten years ago, I kind of thought a similar thing about people and their cars. Driving down the road, I could almost tell you what type of person would be driving it. Not so much today.

Ten years ago, people bought cars that suited their personality. Like why people chose certain breeds of dogs. If you were someone who enjoyed being active outdoors, you probably wouldn’t pick a pug, basset hound, or bulldog. All great dogs, but not ones you would take running or hiking.

If you enjoy going fast, you would have probably purchased a sports car. If you liked to do off-roading, you’d probably drive a Jeep.

But now people are selecting the cars they drive for completely different reasons. Mostly, it’s the bottom line. And that bottom line occurs at the pump.

Sure, sports cars and such are super fun! But if you are constantly hitting the pumps, that fun comes to an end real quick. Most of the cars I see driving on a given day are cars that I’m betting get pretty decent gas mileage. And for the life of me I could not begin to guess what type of person is behind the wheel. Because everyone wants to get the most out of their gas these days.

Have you noticed this? Do you see more and more people choosing “economical” cars over the “fun” cars? Did you choose one of these “economical” cars over a “fun” one?

The great thing is that I think car companies are starting to catch on to this {ok, they’ve probably been seeing this trend way before I ever did}. I think they are really figuring out ways to merge the “economical” and the “fun”.

In the next few months, I’ll probably be chatting more about cars as I work with Toyota as part of their Toyota Women’s Influencer Network. I can’t wait to get some of your feedback as I post questions and ideas and concepts about the cars we drive!

I was selected for participation in the TWIN community through a program with Clever Girls Collective. I did not receive any compensation for writing this post, or payment in exchange for participating. The opinions expressed herein are mine, and do not reflect the views of Toyota.
