I’m really hoping that this Summer we are able to experience some spur-of-the-moment fun! A detour to the Splash Pad downtown on our way to the bank or a last minute picnic lunch at the park.
The problem: Spur-of-the-moment fun still takes a little forethought. A trip to the Splash Pad is fun (even if you are splashing around in your regular clothes) but the fun comes to an end when you’ve forgotten the sunscreen and you end up with sunburnt kids.
So I’m preparing for our spur-of-the-moment fun! I’m packing a ‘catch-all’ Summer Bag that will live in the back of our car all Summer. Helping me to be prepared for the spur-of-the-moment. {Why yes, I am Type-A. Are you just realizing this about me?}
Our Summer Bag

This is so easy! Grab a bag, any bag or basket that might work for you. I’m using my Thirty-One Organizing Utility Tote but will be swapping it out for my Large Utility Tote once it comes in! The great thing about keeping everything in a large tote or bag is that it’s all in one place and is easy to grab and carry to the park or beach or wherever!
Now, start filling it with the different stuff you might need this Summer. Here’s what I have in mine…
→ the About Town Blanket from Thirty-One
→ 2 beach towels
→ hats for the kids
→ sunblock & SPF lipbalm
→ bug spray
→ 2 small buckets for the beach or nature hike finds
→ first aid kit that includes antiseptic, burn cream, bandaids, cold pack, & bug bite/sting cream
→ baby powder for easy removal of sand on little bodies
→ wipes
→ a few diapers stored in a ziplock baggie (the baggie can double for garbage or tossing dirty diapers)
→ empty reusable water bottle (perfect for filling up at a drinking fountain)
→ simple change of clothes for each kid or swimsuit
I think this is a good start for us! We might need to add things as the Summer goes on. The nice thing is that I will still have plenty of room in my bag if we need it.
What would you pack in your Summer Bag? Maybe you have older kids and would toss in a book for you to read as they play. Or an *emergency* snack.
And, if you’re in need of a fun new bag to use as your Summer Bag, you’re in luck! I’m currently hosting an Online Thirty-One party! Simply visit this link. They have some amazing totes and other goodies that you’ll love. And now is the perfect time to stock up on baby shower gifts, wedding gifts, gifts for those college students who are heading off this fall, or just something for yourself! Check out this month’s special, too!

I really don’t want you to get stuck this Summer without a Summer Bag! So, I’m going to giveaway one Thirty-One Large Utility Tote (winner gets to choose the print)! Simply enter below. Giveaway ends June 22 and is open to US shipping addresses.

I am NOT a plan ahead person like I should be with 4 kids and not only do I usually forget to bring sunscreen…I usually forget to buy it! I would be sure to add sunglasses, screen, and an on hand diaper to our bag. AND…my camera:)

um, this is fabulous. Perfect timing!
I would put a few snack size, non perishable (or meltable) snacks in there too. My kids are ridiculous snackers and it never fails – once we’re out and about they’re hungry! And there goes my spending money.

My kids are constant snackers so I keep a lot of that stuff in my car. I keep them in ziploc plastic containers to keep them from getting smashed, it also allows me to buy in bulk.
I also keep all of our fast food meal toys in a baggie in the car. It helps when my little ones want a *new* toy somewhere.
