My “To Do” List in 3.5 years

I have been doing the mom thing for seven years. For seven years I’ve taken kids with me to the grocery store and doctor appointments (OBGYN appts included). I rarely take an uninterrupted shower and very rarely get to pee by myself.

I see you moms nodding your head yes. I know I’m preaching to the choir here. It’s just what we do.

Until they head off to school. Then the game changes.

My game will be changing in approximately 3.5 years. That’s when all three kids will be in school all day. From 8:3oam – 3:30pm I will have silence (except the dog snoring) in my house.

My husband likes to ask me what I’ll do with my time when the kids are all in school. Not in a prickish “all you’ll do is sit on the couch eating bon bons and watching Days of Our Lives” kind of a way. But to help remind me that there is light at the end of the tunnel. To help remind me that there is a me outside of being a mom. And in 3.5 years I will get to explore that me for 7 hours Monday through Friday.

Knowing those next 42 months are going to fly by, I’ve decided to start making my “To Do” list!

Things I will do when the kids are all in school:

  • Schedule doctor appointments without worrying about finding a sitter or scaring my kids with what they may see or hear at the ‘lady-bits’ doctor.
  • Schedule a haircut (and probably color) during daylight hours.
  • Go grocery shopping and not worry about temper tantrums or kids needing to use the bathroom 10 minutes after we get into the store.
  • Have a peaceful lunch with my husband.
  • Have coffee with a friend.
  • Read a book.
  • Write a book.
  • Prepare dinner ahead of time. What? No last minute ‘toss some chicken nuggets in the oven’ dinners?
  • Volunteer in the kids’ classrooms (I know, totally defeating the purpose here)
  • Go to the gym or go for a run.
  • Eat bon bons & watch Days of Our Lives

What fabulous things are you looking forward to when you have more “me” time? Or, if your kids are all in school this year, what amazing things have you enjoyed with your time?

  • Such a good idea! I love this! I might make a list too :)

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately too … what exactly am I going to do (next year?!!).

I think my list might have:
    Start running/walking regularly.
    Have an organized home.
Work with people (don’t know how, but I go crazy by myself all day).
Visit Aaron during work hours. Maybe even hang out.
    See a matinee.
    Read more books.
    Write more often.

  • Love your list! I was just telling Tim the other day that I want to find office space in some old building! And matinee movies — YES!
