Bringing Disney’s The Little Mermaid to life with #DisneyPrincessPlay

I was ten years old when that adventurous red-headed mermaid first swam {and sang} her way into the hearts of little girls everywhere. And now, on October 1st, she’ll be doing it again when “The Little Mermaid” is finally released from that elusive Disney “vault” and rereleased on DVD!

To help celebrate the girls’ first day back at school, I thought it was only fitting to surprise them with two of their favorite things — chocolate chip cookies and Disney Princesses! And, what better way to celebrate than with Ariel and friends!!

While I was at Walmart picking up some last minute Back To School supplies and all the makings for their lunches, I stopped by the toy aisles to see what they had for our favorite little mermaid. Sure enough, they’ve come out with some really fun Little Mermaid inspired toys with the anticipated movie release. New baby dolls and play dolls. Adorable dress-up stuff which would be great for home play or Halloween! And then my girls favorites — the little dolls.

These are dolls that are probably 5 inches high and are perfect little #DisneyPrincessPlay toys. And we love the Magiclip dresses — no more trying to squeeze these dolls in to little plasticy clothes that are impossible to get on!

Anyhow, knowing that the girls love these dolls and have been eyeing the sets that include other characters from the film, I thought this would a be a perfect way to celebrate their transition back to school. So, sitting on the counter for them when they got home was a plate of their favorite cookies being guarded by Ariel (mermaid and princess), King Triton, Prince Eric, Flounder, Sebastian, Max, and that dastardly sea witch Ursula!

{Oh, I should also mention that I did pick up an extra Ariel Magiclip doll to add to our set above. The set only came with Ariel as a mermaid and, of course, we needed Ariel as “legs on land” (that’s what the girls call her when she becomes human) to act out the whole story.}

The girls thought it would was pretty awesome and immediately went into “Little Mermaid” mode while they munched on their cookies. I couldn’t even tell you how many times they’ve acted out the movie with their new dolls.

And I’m sure our new playset friends will be sitting front row with the girls as we celebrate the DVD release on October 1!
